Derek is a graduate from the University of Cape Town (South Africa) with an honours degree in Medical Biochemistry and a graduate degree in Chemical Engineering.
He has 20+ years career experience in process engineering, process control and optimization, consumer product process development, metallurgical processing (hydro and pyro), hydrocarbon recovery, project management, and health & safety management. He has worked in aggregate sourcing and supply, gold producing and refining, supply chain (manufacture, distribution and 3rd party management), and consumer product manufacture & marketing (FMCG). He has worked in global companies and led process implementation projects across Africa, Middle East, Turkey, and Western Canada.
His roles have included Senior Project Engineer and Corporate Health & Safety Manager (Athabasca Minerals), Project Manager (StarPoint Engineering), Operations Engineer (Newalta), Regional R&D Process Development Manager / Innovation Engineer (Unilever), and Plant Metallurgist (AngloGold).
He is an engaged, personable member of the Team who thrives on interacting with fellow work colleagues and clients.
